RimWorld is a science-fiction colony simulator by Ludeon Studios. It is all driven by an intelligent and trusty AI storyteller. Heavily inspired by hit titles such as Dwarf Fortress, Firefly, and Dune, it develops into a grand story on an Earth-like planet that is your world. Let us first have a look at a brief summary of the RimWorld (PC) Steam Key and then go into deeper and more specific details:
You begin with three survivors of a shipwreck on a distant world.
Manage colonists' moods, needs, wounds, illnesses and addictions.
Build in the forest, desert, jungle, tundra, and more.
Watch colonists develop and break relationships with family members, lovers, and spouses.
Replace wounded limbs and organs with prosthetics, bionics, or biological parts harvested from others.
Fight pirates, tribes, mad animals, giant insects and ancient killing machines.
Craft structures, weapons, and apparel from metal, wood, stone, cloth, and futuristic materials.
Tame and train cute pets, productive farm animals, and deadly attack beasts.
Trade with passing ships and caravans.
Form caravans to complete quests, trade, attack other factions, or migrate your whole colony.
Dig through snow, weather storms, and fight fires.
Capture refugees or prisoners and turn them to your side or sell them into slavery.
Discover a new generated world each time you play.
Explore hundreds of wild and interesting mods on the Steam Workshop.
Learn to play easily with the help of an intelligent and unobtrusive AI tutor.
Now that we got the basic gist, let’s dive deeper into the details!
The RimWorld game key is a storytelling generator. It is designed to co-author tragic, twisted, and triumphant stories about the fates of imprisoned pirates, desperate colonists, utter struggle and starvation as well as the limits of survival.
It works by controlling the seemingly “random” events that the world throws at you. Every thunderstorm, pirate raid, and traveling salesman becomes a card dealt into your story by the AI Storyteller. There are several storytellers to choose from, thus making your adventure different with each of them. Here are just a few of them, so that you get a better understanding about the concept: Randy Random does crazy stuff and complex webs of stories, Cassandra Classic goes for rising tension all of the time, and Phoebe Chillax likes to relax and has a more lean approach to things.
Your colonists are not professional settlers – they have crash-landed and are survivors from a passenger liner that got destroyed in orbit of the planet you inhibit. You may end up with a team consisting of a nobleman, an accountant, and a housewife. You are going to acquire more colonists to populate your domains by capturing them in combat and turning them to your side, buying them from various slave traders, or by just taking in refugees in a chaotic manner. So your colony is going to always be a kind of a motley crew with its members coming from all kinds of different paths.
Each person’s background does get tracked and affects how they would act in the gameplay of this sandbox base-building strategy game. A nobleman would be great with their social skills (recruiting prisoners, negotiating trade prices and communicating ideas to others), but is most certainly going to refuse to do physical work. A farmer would know a thing or two about the subject of how to grow food by their long experience in the field, but cannot do any research and is useless at building high-tech equipment of any sort. Then again a nerdy scientist is going to do great research, but is not able to do social tasks at all. A genetically engineered assassin can do nothing else but only kill and think about killing – but they would still do that very well, so it should come in handy at some point.
Colonists are able to develop - and destroy – relationships over time as they get more familiar with each other. Every single one of them has an opinion of the others, which would determine whether they will become lovers, marry, cheat, or fight and kill one another. Perhaps your two best colonists are happily married - until one of them falls for the dashing surgeon who saved them from a gunshot wound at some point. In the RimWorld Steam key anything is possible and you should always be prepared for sudden changes in the storyline!
The game generates a whole planet from pole to pole. You choose whether to land your crash pods in the icy and cold Northern tundra, a parched desert dune, a temperate and lush forest, or a steaming and very much dense equatorial jungle. Different areas would have different animals, plants, diseases, temperatures, rainfall, mineral resources, and the terrain would vary greatly. The challenges of surviving in a disease-infested, choking jungle are very different from those in a parched desert wasteland or frozen tundra with only a two-month growing season.
Travel across the planet. You are not stuck in one place at all. You are able to form a caravan of people, animals, and prisoners. Rescue kidnapped allies from distant pirate outposts, attend peace talks and treaties, trade with other neighboring factions, attack enemy colonies, and complete a variety of other quests. You are able to even pack up your entire colony and move it to a new region. You can use rocket-powered transport pods to travel faster, since your ultimate goal could be to construct a spaceship that would get you off of this rock that you inhabit right now.
You have the ability to tame and train wild animals turning them into lovable pets that will cheer up sad colonists and be your allies. Farm animals could be exploited, milked, and sheared. Attack beasts are able to be released upon your enemies and tear them to pieces. There is a great variety and many animals to pick from - cats, Labrador retrievers, grizzly bears, camels, cougars, chinchillas, chickens, and exotic alien-like life forms that we do not have a word for yet...
People in RimWorld are constantly on the lookout for their situation and surroundings in order to decide how to feel about it at any given moment. They would respond to hunger and fatigue, witnessing deaths, disrespectfully unburied corpses, getting wounded, being left in the darkness, getting packed into cramped environments, sleeping outside or in the same room as others, and many, many other situations that could occur. If your characters are too stressed, they might lash out or break down mentally.
Wounds, infections, prosthetics, and chronic conditions are tracked on each body part and affect characters' capacities. Eye injuries for example make it hard to shoot or do precise and successful surgery. Wounded legs slow people down. Hands, brain, mouth, heart, liver, kidneys, stomach, feet, fingers, toes, and more could all be potentially wounded, diseased, or go missing, and all of these have logical in-game effects on the plot. Other species have their own body layouts - take off a deer's leg, and it can still hobble on the other three. Take off a rhino's horn, and it's much less dangerous and becomes less aggressive over time.
You do have the option to repair body parts with multiple types of prosthetics, ranging from very primitive to absolutely transcendent. A peg leg would get Joe the Colonist walking after an unfortunate incident with a rhinoceros, but he will still be quite slow and probably not so effective as he was before the attack, but if you buy an expensive bionic leg from a trader the next year, and Joe would become a superhuman runner able to run longer and faster than others. You can even extract, sell, buy, and transplant internal organs if necessary.
And there is so much more than that! The RimWorld game is easy to mod and has a very active mod scene with a lively community, thus making the RimWorld multiplayer features nearly endless and full of potential!
