Anyone Looking Forward to “Minecraft 2”?
It has only been a bit over a week in 2025 and we already got a major announcement that suddenly stormed the realms of gaming and honestly it got us quite intrigued for what else the year could potentially hold! Are you as excited as we are for the whole duration of 2025? There are going to be many titles and stories to cover, so let’s begin it all with a BANG!
In a very recent poll Minecraft creator Markus Persson (Notch) heavily hinted at the idea that he “basically announced Minecraft 2” when he asked the followers on his social media profile page on X about what game would they like him to make next.
There were two different available options listed in the poll, more precisely “a roguelike mixed with a tile-based first-person dungeon crawler” and what we could consider as “a spiritual successor to Minecraft” , simply titled in the poll as “Minecraft 2.”
Naturally, it comes as no surprise that the majority of fans have voted for the latter option, as more than 80% of them favored the idea to get a new game in the iconic Minecraft franchise!
What followed was another post by Persson in which he confirmed that he was 100% serious about his previous publication and this simply shook the world of gaming by surprise!
He also stated “I thought that maybe people ACTUALLY do want me to make another game that's super similar to the first one, and I'm loving working on games again,” and we are really excited about it.
Notch seems to indeed be fixed on the idea to work on a spiritual successor of Minecraft, 10 years after he sold Mojang to Microsoft for the staggering sum of $2.5 billion. Mojang keeps working on the tremendously popular Minecraft game even until this day, releasing yearly updates for all the different platforms the game is available on.
Minecraft has cemented its position among the best-selling video games of all time, with its incredible popularity, having sold more than 300 million copies globally, however Microsoft has not given any signs or intention of releasing Minecraft 2, which is not too surprising, when taking into consideration how popular Minecraft still is.
The famous Swedish developer has started and stopped a number of games, including the space sandbox game 0x10c (pronounced as "Ten to the C”). However, in another post, Notch stated that the chances of him completing projects are currently much higher than they were before, due to the fact that he now has employees he is personally feeling responsible for and finishing what has been started seems to be of higher priority because of that very reason.
In any case we are going to keep an eye out for any new updates in the situation and keep you posted about details we get a hold of, when there is sufficient information or media about the project we would absolutely love to make a more thorough overview of things, where we could not only cover the news and updates, but also express what we would like to see or experience in this possible successor to the iconic game title that is Minecraft!
