But such powers do not go unnoticed so easily and our character gets noticed quite quickly, thus she becomes the target of a dangerous group of individuals calling themselves the Ascendants, who would want nothing else but to use the Fold in order to achieve their goal of altering the trajectory of humanity’s future and history.

WHAT IS THE ACTUAL WAY TO THE FOLD AND HOW COULD IT BE REACHED?

Throughout the centuries and different eras, Quaestors have reached to the conclusion that the Fold cannot really be accessed purely physically and it is not a specific destination. Instead, you should rely purely on your consciousness, which is the actual vehicle able to reach into this alternate realm. In order to enter the Fold you would have to perform one of the greatest feats - to separate your consciousness from the body.

This means that the powers required to access the Fold and channel its incredible forces are also known as Umbric abilities. They are named after the Fold’s shadowy aesthetic and appearance (stemming from the Latin word “umbra”, “umbrae”—shadow or shade), all of these skills would normally need much perseverance, endurance and mental capacity to be acquired. Quaestors must undergo training for many years to even be able to have a sneak and short peek the Fold.

IN WHAT WAY IS HAROONA ABLE TO ENTER THE FOLD THEN?

You are going to face off against Vincent at multiple critical points in the Unknown 9: Awakening adventure. To keep any sort of an advantage against Haroona, he heavily relies on Ascendant tech that lets him manipulate the environment he is in. While Haroona gets her energy directly from the Fold, Vincent uses extracted and corrupt Am that glows red. With time you would be able to make the difference between the different Am types in the game and use that to your advantage and strategy.

Every time you go against Vincent, you would have to think about clever ways to defeat him in battle. The tricky part is that you would have to use and exploit different Umbric abilities and manage your attacks really precisely in order to overcome the danger.

THE UNLIKELY EVANGELIST BELIEVER IN THE UNKNOWN 9: AWAKENING STORYLINE.

The next character that we are going to discuss was captured and raised by the Lakota people on the American prairie; his name is Luther and is quite far from your ordinary gunslinger.

He is very comfortable using a gun just as he is able to explore his inner spirituality and even though he has lived by the rules of the pistol for many long years, he decided to abandon that life so that he returns back to the legends he was told as a child, namely the tales of the mysterious Unknown 9 and the Fold itself.

Luther’s attunement to the spiritual realm, his vast knowledge about the legends of the 9, and the constant want to learn and travel have helped him connect with other truth seekers and they formed the Leap Year Society—an organization that has been fully dedicated to the understanding of secret and hidden knowledge. Their belief is that reaching enlightenment only happens with slow but constant progress and development.

THE EARLY STEPS OF A QUAESTOR COULD BE QUITE DIFFICULT, SO YOU MAY NEED A “BABYSITTER”.

Born during the colonialism period in Congo, Buchra’s mother wanted to provide her with a great life by bringing her to Paris when she was still a very young child. There, at the care of a young watchmaker and his wife, Buchra was able to discover the wonders of science and technology. She began studying the principles and theories from all the textbooks she could find and became the youngest woman in France to reach a dual degree in engineering and classical mechanics.

Her story changed drastically when she got acquainted with Luther, one of the founders of the Leap Year Society (LYS) and despite her social discomfort, Buchra felt an affinity to him and the organization as he became her mentor, thus helping her to become even better at solving the puzzles of the world.

It is time to meet with Haroona’s secret weapon on the battleground! With her outstanding intellect, encyclopedic knowledge, amazing problem solving skills, and just a pinch of dark humor, Buchra would always help Haroona to manage with even the hardest mysteries. She is the “guy in the chair” when you need support, and is not afraid to fire some shots in order to get rid of the foes.

STEP RIGHT INTO YOUR UNSUSPECTING ASCENDANT FOES AND CONQUER THEIR BODIES.

One of the most difficult Umbric feats you have at your disposal is Stepping! Simply put, it basically requires the Stepper to cast their Shade (i.e., their consciousness) over someone else’s body and then take control of them.

You would have the ability to Step into Haroona’s enemies and you get the opportunity to exploit their physical strength, combat skills, and even their weapons for a limited time. At the end of the day it is completely up to you how you decide to control them and they would bend to your will, since you define your Stepping technique. This is the only way to achieve a good balance between reaching certain strategic purposes and having more battleground control in a combination that fully suits your preferred game style.

GREATLY ENHANCE ALL OF YOUR COMBAT TACTICS TO THE NEXT LEVEL.

You would also be able to use the Push, Pull, and Crush abilities even though such a move does not necessarily mean enacting different types of fatal attacks; they would all deal hefty amounts of damage when used properly.

When enemy units come nearer you can send throw them around by using your ability to force Push, after that you would have the chance to perform a more potent Umbric attack. When you feel more ready to have close-range fights, use Pull on your enemies so that you deliver a series of crushing blows.

How you make and enact your strategy would depend on the specific situation and your goals at that specific moment.

• THIS SKILL IN UNKNOWN 9: AWAKENING CAN EVOLVE BUT IT REQUIRES STEPPING TOKENS.

Being one of the most advanced power skills in your possession, Stepping is a skill that is able to evolve and be further customized over time. To achieve your full battle capacity and potential you must find Stepping tokens while you are in combat, it could happen by performing different melee attacks and takedown moves.

• YOU ARE ABLE TO STEP FROM ONE TARGET TO ANOTHER IF YOU HAVE ENOUGH TOKENS.

As you progress further towards the game’s later levels, the more skills you are able to pick up would mean the more Stepping tokens you can earn. When you acquire the maximum amount you could string together a more complex sequence of up to three consecutive Stepping attacks!

• EVEN THOUGH IT IS SO MIGHTY STEPPING DOES HAVE ITS OWN LIMITATIONS.

Even the most advanced of Steppers are not able to live forever in another person’s body just like that. • NOT ALL OF THE VICTIMS HAVE THE SAME EXPERIENCE AS OTHERS DO.

The experience you get with different possessed victims could vary depending on the Stepper’s abilities and goals, as well as the victim’s willpower to defend. Less experienced Steppers have no other choice but to leave their victims with no memory of the attack. More advanced steppers are able to control each and every aspect of their victim’s experience, including the trajectory of where their Shade winds up after the possession is complete.

Synonymous with Umbric energy, Am is the fuel that powers most if not all of your Umbric talents, so be sure to regularly check your Am meter. Stepping marks the exception to the rule and does in fact replenish your Am with each Step into an enemy. This is also known as a Leeching Step and is an unlockable skill that ensures you are able to properly maintain your Umbric stamina.

• IT IS POSSIBLE TO SPOT THE SIGNS OF A STEP-IN ON VICTIMS.

Perhaps you are wondering if there is a certain way for you to tell if someone has been Stepped into? One major signal about that is that the victim’s eye color is going to switch to that of the Stepper’s —unless you are dealing with a truly masterful user of the craft, or in the silly yet possibly devious case where their eye match in color.
