BEST UPCOMING HORROR GAMES IN 2025
Even though the Halloween craze passed; we are still on the wave of horror titles! This time the list is going to be dedicated to only upcoming titles that would get released sometime next year in 2025. The idea is to know what is ahead and follow up on the development progress of these horrific gaming experiences and when the time comes to be aware of their arrival as soon as possible. The list will contain titles that revolve in some way around the horror genre, but their individual themes could differ between more action-adventure, psychological or survival-based mechanics.
We have arranged the entries once again in an alphabetical order and with the current status on its release as of writing this text. We really hope you are going to enjoy our picks for best upcoming horror games in 2025!

A.I.L.A. [COMING IN 2025]
Starting our list is A.I.L.A. (or Artificial Intelligence Limited Access) by Pulsatrix Studios and Fireshine Games which is a horror game with a first-person perspective set in a near-future filled with dangerous technology. It is on a mission of sending players into a futuristic dark world that is governed by a rogue A.I.
You get to play as the only game tester for a revolutionary new fictional AI. Be sure to overcome the most intense horror experiences that prey on your deepest fears as the lines that separate the virtual and real worlds begin to merge drastically… This adventure game mixes exploration with cool puzzle mechanics to stop you in your tracks as you navigate through the dystopian environments controlled by self-aware technology.
A.I.L.A. promises a deep narrative full of choices that would keep players on the edge as they find out more about the mysteries this dark future holds, it is coming to PC soon and we actually got a new trailer for this one very recently.
Benny’s Backrooms [Coming Soon]
Salutations and welcome to the shelter! If you are watching this you have most likely gotten lost in the nightmarish reality known as the Backrooms.
Benny’s Backrooms by GameName LLC will immerse you in an experience of endless hallways and strange spaces infested with even stranger monster creatures. Manage to work together with your friends or if you have to even betray them, so that you can find any of the multiple possible exits in the Backrooms.
You are going to have to get through a lot of “You died” screens on your monitor, so ultimately you would have to prepare mentally for a mind-bending experience that is going to keep you gazing with scare at every turn. This game was supposed to be coming to the PC in June 2024, but at the time of writing this text the official Steam page for it says “Coming soon”, so it would probably drop at some point in 2025.
Damned 2 [TBA]
Return to the haunting world of Damned in its anticipated sequel - Damned 2 by 9heads Game Studios which is an asymmetrical multiplayer (4vs1) horror survival game where a group of players must work together in a team in order to solve complex puzzles and escape the truly immersive environments while another player has got to take the role of an unbeatable monster ready to slay all the other participants that he finds.
The pack of survivors can explore multiple different scenarios searching for items, such as keys to open doors, puzzle solutions and a way out of the cursed place they found themselves in.
With its enhanced graphics and some newly added gameplay mechanics and improvements, Damned 2 promises an even more terrifying and immersive horror experience than ever before.
Directive 8020 [2025]
Next on the list we have Directive 8020 by Supermassive Games, in which Earth is dying and humanity is running out of time. 12 light years from home, Tau Ceti F gives us a small shard of hope that there might be a solution to all our problems, but perhaps it is all wrong…. This title basically takes players into the far reaches of space, where the members of a crew must survive after a rogue AI takes over their spaceship.
When a colony ship named Cassiopeia performs a crash landing on a strange distant planet, the crew quickly realizes that they are not alone in this place. In space, death takes many forms in this action packed horror title by combining the claustrophobic tension of limited options, going through space exploration with an immersive storytelling element that is going to keep you alert all through.
This game's horror elements seem to be inspired by classic titles such as Alien and Dead Space, so you can be sure to expect many firefights, a lot of suspense and plenty of difficult puzzles to solve as you navigate the deadly corridors of a ship where every corner spells danger in capital letters.
Dying Light: The Beast [COMING SOON]
Every man has an animal within if you push too much you might Unleash the Beast. The Dying Light franchise is back with Dying Light: The Beast by Techland, as it is an expansion that introduces new open world elements, very much enhanced parkour mechanics, new enemy types and of course it brings back to the action the fan-favorite character Kyle Crane himself.
Dying Light: The Beast is a standalone zombie adventure with lots of thrills that is set in the post-apocalyptic Castor Woods, which was a popular touristic place in the past. After 13 years of relentless testing and all kinds of cruel experimentation, you manage to escape and then later on hunt down your captors so that you seek out the so very desired retribution, only to find out that there is far more at stake than your personal experiences.
While retaining the series’ signature survival horror style, this time you are going against even bigger horrific creatures that have mutated even more. The game promises on a bigger and more dynamic world as it pushes the limits of survival horror to new frontiers.
Industria 2 [TBA]
Industria 2 by Bleakmill and Headup Games was announced earlier this year and it is game that was taunted as a dimension crossing narrative first-person shooter coming in fresh to PCs everywhere in 2025. It is a long-awaited sequel to the 2021 Industria original which has been a really well-received game and this development was just a logical one for the franchise.
Industria 2 is about a woman who is stranded in a weird and creepy parallel dimension. You would have to explore, scavenge and fight your way, through a mysterious surreal landscape that is completely consumed by an ever-hungry artificial intelligence, to get back to your home.
It uses the Unreal Engine 5 technology and delivers quite the compelling narrative story amongst its other standout qualities, making it a title that is worthy of a check up in case you somehow missed it on your radar.
Kandyland [TBA]
Welcome to Kandyland - the sweetest place on Earth! Home of the most delicious kandy and thrilling rides in the world. It is pure fun for the whole family! It was originally supposed to be a magical place, where nothing could ever go wrong, but it would seem that is not the case at this point. No worries though, as anything could be fixed with a little smile on your face…
Explore the twisted world of Kandyland by Goldenlane Studio, which is another single player horror game title in which you must do your best to outwit and if possible, eliminate some very beloved characters, which once used to bring joy to people, but certainly do not do so anymore, in order to escape this park.
You are going to navigate through the many disruptive and dark environments, solve intricate puzzles and face the bizarre enemies in this kandy-coated nightmare realm. It is going to be a journey through a landscape where nothing is as it seems, challenging both your wits and courage at the same time.
KARMA: The Dark World [TBA]
KARMA: The Dark World by POLLARD STUDIO LLC, Wired Productions and Gamera Games is a first-person cinematic psychological thriller set in a dystopian world where the Leviathan Corporation is omnipresent and ruling over all aspects of life. The time is set to 1984, the place is designated to East Germany, and things are not entirely the way they seem to be.
The Leviathan Corporation practices its rule with an iron fist, controlling the citizens through methods such as mass surveillance, rules for the different social classes, mind altering medications and the vague promises that those who serve it properly would enter an unseen Utopia.
We recently got a new trailer for it named “Lost Lambs” which adds onto the already established elements of the story driven by intense psychological horror, now it is also clear that the title is coming to PC and both other major consoles as well next year. Rumors has it that this game made specifically to feel like you are living through the character’s lost memories and mind in order to know his own end of the story.
Nightmare House: Reimagined [COMING SOON]
Coming in as a top contender on our list is Nightmare House: Reimagined by We Create Stuff, which is a reinvention of a horror classic, and we mean a total makeover of the favorite indie horror game from the past.
Just like the original game it actually offers a very terrifying first-person experience with greatly improved graphics, enhanced gameplay mechanics, dynamic lighting and a lot of interesting and devastating moments.
Nightmare House is set, well…. obviously in a haunted house, at least some of the time…since at times you would be located in unknown places that would haunt you forever! It leans heavily on psychological horror territory but with a lot of terror in action at the same time, it is perfect for fans of the Amnesia or Silent Hill games. How long will it take you to realize that escape was never a valid option?
Post Trauma [Coming in 2025]
In case you missed the announcement of Post Trauma by Red Soul Games and Raw Fury, we have to inform you that it seems like an entry on a level of its own, but sadly it is not coming for the PC, Xbox series X and S as well as the PlayStation 5 for this Halloween season, since it got delayed for an upcoming release in 2025.
Post Trauma is a modern-day survival horror, inspired by many other genre-defining classics. You awaken to find yourself in a twisted and morbid reality full of mind-bending puzzles, breathtaking dynamics, and unspeakable nightmares. Will you find a way out of this nightmare?
The game is a horror adventure tribute and a modern take on the more classic horror games, blending old school fixed camera angles with modern style graphics. The story is about a middle-aged train conductor as he tries to understand and escape the nasty world he got trapped in, within his own mind.
Phantom line [TBA]
Phantom line by Antistatic Studios is a 1-4 player co-op shooter set on a post nuclear European continent. Your main mission is to contain various paranormal events and activities such as anomalies that must remain stay hidden from the public eye as much as it is humanly possible.
Basically you are the OPERATOR - an essential part of an elite special ops unit that just happens to deal with such types of unstable and dangerous hazards. You work for a mysterious mega corporation called Mortfield Industries. In the storyline one of Mortfield's research facilities, placed in the IRON CORRIDOR – which is an Eastern European region torn by international conflicts and paranormal activities - has lost contact with headquarters. You have now been sent there to further investigate and secure the perimeter, all while a nuclear war breaks out and threatens to wipe out all life around.
This game is actually set in an open world map full of dynamic events, and is supposed to be coming to PC soon, but until then you can check out the different trailers and demo preview for it online.
Reanimal [Coming Soon]
If you missed this one, the creators of Little Nightmares I & Little Nightmares II have returned to take you on a darker, more terrifying journey than ever before. Reanimal by Tarsier Studios and THQ Nordic is a co-op horror adventure game, in which you get to play as a brother & sister who go through pure hell to rescue their missing friends and escape the island of dread that they once used to call their home.
Exploring the world by boat and on land, you must use your instincts in order to survive, work together to escape the hellish island, and break free of the dark secrets that haunt and burden you at every step.
You would be able to enjoy the frights this title is able to provide on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S as well as the PC version for Microsoft Windows.
Retrieval [TBA]
Dive into a deep narrative filled with unexpected plot twists, exploring serious themes such as friendship, love, loyalty, and horror. In Retrieval by 333Studios. Inc. you assume the role of Hana Loshe, the commander of a research team on the distant planet Ryhalian.
Retrieval is very much shaping up to be a really fast-paced sci-fi shooter with a great focus on horror survival and the co-op multiplayer gameplay allows you to enjoy together it with your friends. The in-game story is set on a world where players must extract critical data from dangerous alien infested environments and find the best possible answers that they can obtain.
It perfectly blends tactical teamwork with intense firefights featuring procedural generation, meaning that no two missions are going to be the same, thus making each mission a fierce and unique challenge.
Silent Nightmares: A Christmas Story [TBA]
You should not have come here! From here on you are going to experience a true holiday horror with Silent Nightmares: A Christmas Story by Axyos Games. It is a horror adventure game set within a winter holiday landscape that is supposed to be full of joy and glee...until it is not!
It seems to be teeming with zombies and other very powerful and dangerous entities in this first person survival horror shooter and you find yourself right in the middle of all the critical events.
In Silent Nightmares your mission is to ultimately solve the mystery of a maniac Santa Claus impersonator and manage to somehow save every possible survivor amongst the possessed creatures that you find. Make sure to also solve the very festive, yet terrifying puzzles in this brilliantly balanced blend of holiday cheer and horror adventure, coming for the PC sometime around Christmas next year perhaps? Let’s wait and see, since it still needs a release date to be announced!
The Bornless [Coming Soon]
The Bornless by Cathedral Studios, is an action horror first-person shooter game, where the veil between reality and the deadly abyss is growing thinner and thinner. Face off against other players, summon your very own demons, and build factions in a Lovecraftian styled world. Use Black Magick, acquire the most powerful weapons you manage to find and upgrade your Safehouse so that your strategy helps you to survive longer.
The Bornless title manages to achieve a combination of Battle Royal gameplay with supernatural horror twists spread all over it. This game has a grim world filled with ancient dark magic wielders. Players must fight each other all while battling various monsters at the same time.
With its elements of resource management and magic crafting, this game adds a strong strategy layer on top of the survival one, so fans of Dead by Daylight and Haunt: Showdown are going to find themselves quite drawn to the game's fast-paced atmospheric gameplay and unique supernatural mechanics. This game should be coming to the PC at some point next year.
The Occultist [2025]
When the suggestive becomes evident, then do we only see what is really there… Taking the next spot on our horror titles list is The Occultist by DALOAR, Pentakill Studios S.L. and publisher Daedalic Entertainment. It is a fairly newly announced game that is already sending some serious shivers. It is a story-driven game that puts you in the role of a paranormal Investigator on a quest to uncover the mystery behind the disappearance of his father while on a haunted island.
In this spine-chilling horror experience you get to accompany the protagonist Alan Rebels on the most terrifying occult investigation he has embarked on to this very day. This game offers next generation graphics, legitimately scary horror elements and a complex puzzle system. The Occultist promises fans a deeply atmospheric experience, filled with non-stop intense emotions, mostly in the fear department of the spectrum.
The Thing: Remastered [Coming soon]
The Thing: Remastered is a third-person survival horror shooter that serves as a sequel to the genre-defining 1982 film and it is back in a remastered version by a huge roster of companies; Nightdive Studios, Black Label Games, Universal Interactive, Vivendi Games and Konami that worked together to bring to the modern era this innovative combination of fast paced squad action that meets survival horror. It includes as the modern tech goodies such as Antialiasing, Per Pixel Lighting, 4K Resolution and up to 144 FPS.
It seems to be one hell of a horror third person shooter and it seems to be much, much more dedicated to the right formula for the franchise this time. The good news about is that this remastered version is in the works by the same team that remastered the recently released System Shock game, so check it out as well in case you missed it.
Whether you knew about it or not The Thing is now finally coming to PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox series X at some point during 2025.
Tormented Souls 2 [2025]
Caroline Walker is back in this award-winning classic survival horror sequel. Explore the eerie monasteries and other nightmarish and unwelcoming locations in Tormented Souls 2by Dual Effect and PQube. Brace yourself and confront all of the terrifying creatures, which are going to hunt and hurt you, armed only with makeshift weapons as you desperately try to rescue your cursed sister from her dark fate.
Tormented Souls 2 brings back classic survival horror vibes by featuring a fixed camera angle, challenging puzzles, and even more terrifying enemies. This sequel refines the elements that made the original a fan favorite, including deeply immersive environments, expansive exploration and loads of body horror.
With its old school survival horror themes and modern-day mechanics Tormented Souls 2 is an ideal choice for fans of both the Resident Evil I and Silent Hill games, who crave chilling puzzle field adventures with a deeply symbolic narrative.
We Harvest Shadows [TBA]
From the creator of The First Tree comes We Harvest Shadows both developed and published by David Wehle, an emotional first-person narrative game with farming and horror elements included in the mix. Players are going to take control over Garrett, a transplant from the city who has exiled himself to an abandoned farm for the rest of his life. He really thinks “the world would be a better without him in it” for some reason and is quite convinced in this belief.
We Harvest Shadows is a more atmospheric horror game that drops players into a decaying world filled with dark forces combining narrative driven exploration with surreal survival mechanics. The game invites you to uncover the deeply hidden truths in a mysterious haunting forest.
The wholesome art direction and storytelling create a deeply unsettling atmosphere sharing similar qualities to games such as Inside and Limbo, this is a tale of lone survival where every corner could be hiding dangers and secrets awaiting to be revealed by someone that has gotten lost in this world.
Will: Follow the light [2025]
Will: Follow the light combines platforming and puzzle solving in a gorgeously crafted world provided by the young indie studio TomorrowHead. It offers players some very realistic visuals with really delicate aesthetics and a moving narrative at the same time. It tells us about the story of a young hero navigating dreamlike landscapes filled with mystery and even more mysterious creatures.
Dive into this realistic, single-player, first-person journey through the harsh northern latitudes as you sail across endless waters, in search for a way back to your loved ones. Will you follow the light or is the darkness going to ultimately conquer you?
If you like the combination of something like Inside and Silent Hill this game proposes to be a deep narrative choice that would speak to your heart and mind alike.
With so many extraordinary titles ahead of us in the next year, we simply cannot wait to get more details about them. When the release dates get sorted we would surely make longer reviews on the more prominent ones and get more familiar with them as time passes.
